Over the last few days we returned to a couple of spots that we thought we needed some more time to explore, including some good mountain biking. The first stop was a return to Narooma. We absolutely love the area around the BIG4 caravan park which sits right on the inlet and returning this time was much quieter than our initial visit in school holidays. We had a nice site with all the other over 50’s right on the waterfront.
One of the reasons to return here was because apparently there are always seals on the rocks and sting rays in the inlet and for some reason, we had missed both. Well, we weren’t disappointed and thankfully we timed it perfectly with some dry, sunny weather! We strolled around the boardwalk on the inlet and saw multiple large sting rays in the shallow water. Impossible to photograph with them being underwater and it’s hard to estimate the size but they looked like up to 6 feet in diameter. Plenty of other sea life to see and lots of pelicans! On the other side of the inlet there were dozens of seals lazing on the rocks, none of them fussed about us being there. Narooma really is one of our favourite stops.
Being much quieter than our first time to Narooma, Jake was able to climb into Australia Rock for a quick photo.
Another reason to return to Narooma was to ride some more of the trails. We had perfect conditions for riding as there had been rain before we arrived so the trails were nice and tacky. Jake seemed to think we had been a bit soft with our riding and we should put in some decent k’s so, we rode 32km. I’d say that’s decent.
We had to pack up and flee the rain on Thursday morning, just in time to dodge the forecasted floods. It was a pretty ordinary drive weather wise for our return to Eden. We also wanted to ride more trails here that we hadn’t on the way up. We chose a different caravan park this time that has a nice location right across from the beach on one side and next to a lake on the other. It would have been a nice spot to stay for longer, but we wanted to keep moving from the rain that was heading south. We rode a couple of different trails at Gravity Eden which turned out to be really good. Again, the conditions were good due to rain before we got there, other than dodging one quick shower.
Friday morning, we hooked up in the rain again to head to Lakes Entrance for an overnight stop. We walked along the Esplanade and sampled some of the local food. So many tempting eateries to choose from here. Too many! We also walked across the Cunninghame Arm Footbridge to the beach. This place really is surrounded by water wherever you are so, it makes sense there are dozens of fishing boats. No rain today, but also no sunshine which was a bit miserable.
It's Saturday and have arrived in Traralgon. We’re getting very close to Melbourne with only 6 days until we board the ferry for our return trip home. We have some riding planned here which seems to be popular with Victorian mountain bikers. Report to come on those trails!
